Books to read before their summer blockbuster adaptation

If you’re anything like me, you love watching book adaptations after you’ve read the book — you know, to see which one is better and if the movie follows all the plot lines. So these are the must-read books for the summer book adaptation line-up.

1. Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll

Although most people would have the classic Alice in Wonderland, many may not have read the equally-as-whimsical sequel Through the Looking Glass. The adaptation will be called Alice Through the Looking Glass and will see characters from the original Tim Burton film reprising their roles. Let’s hope this one is more on point with the plot line.

Movie release day: May 27.

2. Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

A real tear-jerker for sure, Me Before You follows the new trend of books featuring romance in sickness and in health following the likes of The Fault in Our Stars. Bring some tissues while you read and definitely pack some when you see it in theatres.

Movie release date: June 3

3. The BFG by Roald Dhal

The BFG (short for “Big Friendly Giant”) was directed by Steven Spielberg and promises to be a family favorite for years to come just like it’s eponymous book.

Movie release date: July 1

4. Tarzan of the Apes by Edgar Rice Burroughs

Many movie adaptations have tried to capture the book’s story and many adaptations have come out of it. The latest attempt? The Legend of Tarzan directed by David Yates.

Movie release date: July 1

5. The Jason Bourne series created by Robert Ludlum

Yes, Jason Bourne returns to the big screen with another spy thriller movie.

Movie release date: July 29

6. Mike and Dave need wedding dates by Mike and Dave Stangle

A true story turned novel turned movie adaptation starring Zac Efron? Sign me up.

Movie release date: July 8

 7. Nerve by Jeanne Ryan

A haunting twist to truth or dare unites two teens. This is the story of the chaos that ensues.

Movie release date: July 27
